Killer Gets Life In Serial Shootings

A jury has given Samuel Dieteman life in prison for his role in a series of random nighttime shootings that rattled metropolitan Phoenix in 2005 and 2006.

Dieteman, 33, pleaded guilty to two of the six murders linked to the attacks in 2005 and 2006. He also agreed to testify against former roommate, Dale Hausner.

Hausner was handed six death sentences earlier this year for the random 14-month shooting rampage. The attacks rattled Phoenix as hundreds of investigators tried to crack a case in which prosecutors said Hausner preyed on pedestrians, bicyclists, dogs and horses during the violence that occasionally included Dieteman.

Before Hausner and Dieteman's arrests, police wiretaps recorded conversations between Hausner and Dieteman that suggested they participated in the shootings.

According to one transcript, both men seemed to brag about the death toll, saying they wanted to "kill 500" and how much they "loved shooting people in the back."
